After a short hiatus dealing with issues at the old location, B&G Pies is back and baking in Winston-Salem. B&G has been baking pies since 1949. Chocolate, Apple, Cherry, Lemon and Peach are the flavors. These pies are superior to Hostess and other wannabees.

Monthly Farm Report, County Estimates, Farm Census, Weather & Crops Reports.

My soap box: before you buy Monsanta products think: Heirloom seeds.

This weekend (April 16, 2016) is one of the biggest British Car Gatherings on the East Coast at Shelton Vineyards in Dobson, NC. If you want to see MGs, Jaguars, Triumphs, Austin-Healeys, TRVs, Astin Martins, Bentleys, Rolls Royces, Land Rovers and more, then head up to the lovely Shelton Vineyards.

The Triumph Club puts on this wonderful occasion. It’s a great drive from Winston-Salem, Greensboro, or High Point. Here’s the club website: http://www.triumphclub.org/Gathering/
I’m a past owner of 1962 MGB, 1974 1/2 MGB, 1957 MGA, 1972 Triumph Spitfire, and 1972 Triumph TR6. Currently an owner of a 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8. Btw thanks to Scott Winfield at the Paint Shop off Griffith Road in Winston-Salem for the wonderful body work and paint. He’s a master. I’ll use no other. Scott is a straight shooter. I signed an agreement with him which detailed exactly what he was and wasn’t doing to my car.
See you up at Shelton Vineyards!

Spring 2016 through Fall 2016 – organic gardening classes to start at the Wachovia Garden (see on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/Wachovia-Garden-187189111300272/?ref=ts&fref=ts ) which is located behind the Belo Home in historic Old Salem. Location is at the corner of Church Street & Bank Street. Also accessible by Main Street.
Time: Tuesdays from 5:30- dusk. Come when you can.
The 2 acre garden, now in it’s 6th year, grows heirloom vegetables and fruits from the Old Salem period.
The classes will include tilling, planting, weeding, watering, trimming & pruning, seasonal planting, plus an opportunity to put on a bee suit and look at the hives.
Here’s an article that discusses how gardening really hasn’t changed much since the colonial times.
What is grown at Wachovia Garden goes to Sunnyside Ministries to feed the hungry.
The garden exists thanks to the generosity of the Moravian Church’s Southern Province.

NC Dives and Diners

After court in Morganton, North Carolina (Burke County), I drove through Drexel, Valdese, Connelly Springs, Rutherford College, and Hildebran. Two BBQ shacks were closed since it was Monday. I took a quick peak at Rhodhiss Lake. A local told me it’s more of a river than a lake. Still looked pleasant and had fisherman lowering their boats into it. I was jealous.

Frye Daddy’s Diner was open in Hildebran at the corner of Center Street and Highway 70. For $5.75 I received a meat & two vegetables, Choice of bread, and dessert. The hamburgers smelled good too. I’ll be back. I need to try the cobbler next time.

I was up in court for a will contest case in Burke County, North Carolina. Nice to meet the folks in the Clerk’s office and the Burke County bar.

Winston-Salem Private Equity Fund hits goal

17 Thursday Mar 2016

Linville Team Partners and Carolina Investment Properties created a private equity fund. It’s called Front Street Capital. They set out to raise $15mm. This week in the Winston-Salem Journal it was announced by Coleman Team that they raised $15mm.

Front Street Capital will use the money to purchase Class A commercial real estate. The benefit of the fund as an investment vehicle over traditional loans is that there is no mortgage expense to deal with. FOR THE RECORD: neither Kirk Sanders nor his law firm is endorsing an equity fund investment. The reader makes that call.

Front Street Capital has already purchased 101 South Stratford Road in Winston-Salem. This is a 75,000 sf building near the 5 Points section of Winston-Salem.

Quite honestly, I’m impressed with the raising of the capital.

Here’s my question: Is their venture capital out there to be raised for local start-ups. I’m hearing there is little in the way for the riskier start-up capital projects from a local perspective. Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s what I’ve heard.

Answer: Yes.  all sorts New Ventures, Winston Starts, etc
